What is an Age Calculator?
An age calculator measures the exact time that has passed between a birth date and an "as of" date. Instead of giving only a whole number of years, it breaks the interval down into years, months, and days, and also restates it as totals in months, weeks and days, days, hours, minutes, and seconds.
The "as of" date is optional and defaults to the current moment, so the tool answers the everyday question "how old am I today". You can also set it to a past or future date to find an age at any point in time, such as a milestone birthday or a historical date.
The tool works from whole calendar days, comparing both dates from midnight. It accounts for leap years and for months of different lengths, so a span that crosses February 29 is counted correctly. The breakdown panel spells out the result in every supported unit.
When the page first loads the birth date is pre-filled with a date 25 years before today and the "as of" field is left blank so it uses the present time. If the birth date is later than the "as of" date, the calculator cannot produce a meaningful age and shows an error message instead.

Tips and Common Mistakes
- Birth date after the "as of" date — the tool cannot compute a negative age and shows the message "Birth date cannot be after the as of date".
- Leave "as of" empty for today — clearing the field makes the calculator use the current moment automatically.
- Age changes at the birthday — the whole-year figure only ticks up on the anniversary of the birth date, not on January 1.
- Leap years are automatic — February 29 is handled for you, so an age spanning a leap year is counted correctly.
- Whole days only — both dates are compared from midnight, so times of day are ignored.
- Months are not uniform — months range from 28 to 31 days, so converting a total to months is approximate.
