What is PDF Metadata?

PDF metadata is the information stored inside a PDF file that describes the document — such as title, author, subject, and keywords. This metadata helps with document organization, search engine indexing, and accessibility. Some metadata fields like Producer and Creator are automatically set by the software used to create the PDF.

This tool runs entirely in your browser using the pdf-lib library. Your files never leave your device.

How to Use This PDF Metadata Editor

  1. Upload your PDF — Drag and drop a PDF file onto the drop zone, or click to browse and select a file (max 50MB).
  2. View current metadata — The existing metadata fields (title, author, subject, keywords) are loaded into editable fields. Producer and Creator are displayed as read-only.
  3. Edit fields — Modify the title, author, subject, and keywords as needed. Keywords should be comma-separated.
  4. Download the result — Click Save Metadata & Download to apply the changes and download the updated PDF.
